Variations and Substitutions

Even though this cocktail is incredibly unique, you can still make a few swaps and keep that delicious flavor.

  • Infuse your own whiskey with cinnamon to create a unique and customized flavor. You can use rye or bourbon. For cleaner flavors, try apple pie vodka.
  • Add up to a half-ounce of simple syrup to sweeten your applesauce cocktail.
  • Use a splash or two of cinnamon liqueur or cinnamon simple syrup to up those sweet and spiced cinnamon notes.
  • Include a half-ounce of apple cider, apple juice, or applejack for an extra bite of apple flavor.

The applesauce cocktail is a very modern creation. With that in mind, this isn't a cocktail with a standard garnish, so the world is your oyster.

  • Use a fresh apple slice, either red or green.
  • Complete your applesauce cocktail with a citrus wheel, wedge, or slice.
  • If you want less citrus, an orange, lemon, lime wheel, ribbon, or peel will add a pop of color.
  • Pierce a pineapple wedge on a cocktail skewer.

Serving up the Applesauce Cocktail

The applesauce cocktail makes for a cocktail to serve at a fall gathering, a fitting cocktail for a Halloween party, or as a punch during a summer BBQ. A few fun ways to serve the applesauce cocktail are in mason jars or even old applesauce jars! You can even shake your cocktails in the jars and serve straight away without using a cocktail shaker for a fun spin. If you're serving a larger group, quickly multiply your servings to suit the number of guests. Add all of your ingredients to a pitcher or punch bowl and add the ice just before serving to keep it chilled without diluting all the tasty goodness. For a group, it can be helpful to add a mixer. You can preserve the flavors by using a bottle of prosecco or top each serving with club soda.

Just like those playground days, you'll be the boss applesauce with your friends when you serve them this applesauce cocktail. The secret to selling them on the flavors is keeping the ingredients a secret. After all, it takes some magic to turn pineapple juice into an applesauce cocktail.
