Variations and Substitutions

Depending on where you are, even from bar to bar, the redneck margarita recipe changes. Here are a few other versions.

  • You can use a traditional lager in your redneck margarita.
  • For those who want more sour lime flavor, you can add half to a full ounce of freshly squeezed lime juice.
  • Using añejo tequila will make your margarita smoother, especially when paired with a lime-forward lager.
  • Add a splash of freshly squeezed lemon juice to complement the lemon-lime soda flavor.

It's no mystery that the redneck margarita calls for a classic margarita garnish. However, this unique margarita can also use a unique garnish. Think about switching it up for an orange or lemon wheel. You can even add a citrus ribbon for a touch of flair. A salt rim wouldn't go amiss if you wanted to add a rim. Start by rimming the glass with a lemon or lime wedge. Add some salt to a saucer, then dip the glass into the salt. Take care not to touch the rim when adding ice or pouring into the glass after.

About the Redneck Margarita

If you're hosting a party or even having a small group of friends over, the redneck margarita is one of the easiest drinks you can prep ahead of time, as there's no extra work for the garnish either. In a large pitcher, simply add ice, a single twelve-ounce can of frozen limeade concentrate, a twelve-ounce can of lemon-lime soda, and a twelve-ounce bottle of Mexican or another lighter lager. Top off your mix with twelve ounces of tequila and stir to mix it all together. When serving, serve over fresh ice with a lime wedge. If your guests are serving themselves, you can create a margarita station by leaving lime wedges and salt for DIY rims and a bowl of lime wheels for garnish.

The Easy Way

The redneck margarita is a quick four ingredient margarita that thinks outside of the box. With those tasty beer and citrus soda bubbles, the redneck margarita will have you rethinking all those times you spent juicing limes for a margarita.
